Technophobia

What Is Technophobia and How to Overcome It?

If you have ever hesitated to use your child’s smartphone or wondered how to operate a computer without someone giving you guidance, you may not be alone. A number of people find it difficult to deal with technology, and gadgets inspire fear in them. Some people take this fear to an extreme and may be called ‘technophobics’ by psychologists. “Many people experience technophobia, and being technophobic can make even simple gadgets feel overwhelming or intimidating.” People with technophobia often experience intense tech fear when faced with new digital devices. “Many people who fear technology gradually develop a deeper phobia of technology as digital devices become more integrated into everyday life. Despite the rise of technophobia, even many technophobes are beginning to rely on smartphones for daily tasks. To understand the technophobe meaning, we first need to ask, what is technophobia? Some individuals experience tech fear—the fear of technology, called technophobia. Tech phobia is common among people who fear tech and feel overwhelmed by rapid digital change. The phobia of computers, meaning of technophobia, is becoming more widely discussed as technology advances. Technology fear often grows into a deeper fear of technology when someone feels overwhelmed by rapid change. Her fear of laptops grew into a broader techophobia that affected her daily life. Tachnophobia can arise when computer fear becomes overwhelming and people avoid using technology altogether. Technophobia is not an officially recognized mental illness, but it is the extreme and irrational fear of technology. Usually, this fear is related to irrational fear of computers, robots, artificial intelligence, weapons, and other such things that seem advanced in scientific thought. Many people fear genetically modified organisms (GMOs) too, though research shows that they are safe to consume. In other words, fear of science and technology is a very real problem in our societies, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that one can find a technophobe around every street corner. Technology phobia is common among people who fear tech and feel overwhelmed by rapid digital changes. People with technophobia often fear tech because they worry it will be too difficult to control or understand. Fear or just aversion to technology? Yet, in this article, we are going to discuss technophobia as a general term, not as the extreme avoidance of computers as people understand it. So, for the scope of this article, technophobia is hesitation or aversion towards new technologies, especially cloud technology, mobile applications, the use of the Internet, and coding. This is a huge problem today because a number of businesses are still using computers that run on Windows XP, and refuse to bring in any sort of technological advancement to their companies. This has resulted in loss of growth, stagnation of economy and a general sense of lethargy that is simply not required. The fear of technology, often referred to as tech phobia, can prevent people from embracing modern digital tools. [php snippet=1] Most of these companies that refuse to adopt new technologies often have CEOs that are resistant to changes, directors who are technophobic in the real term, and people who just do not want to see any kind of changes made at all. All these categories of people have hampered the growth of their own companies and of society in general. In this article, let us understand what technophobia is and how we can overcome it so that newer technologies can be adopted without fearing them. Of course, this is not going to happen all of a sudden and will take time, but the effort put in is certainly worth it. A technophobe is someone whose fear of technology is called technophobia. Self-help Self-help does not get the credit it usually deserves. While books like The Secret and others are panned by certain people, there are a lot of self-help techniques that can actually work. You will need to find out what is best for you. If you believe your aversion towards technology is irrational and that it must be paid attention to, you have already reached a certain level of insight. This insight can further be developed into making positive changes in life that will help to introduce technology slowly but surely. Her technophobia, a deep fear of technology, made her avoid using smartphones and computers. Fear of technology is called technophobia, and fear of computers is called logizomechanophobia. For example, Sam was fearful of smartphones. He initially purchased a basic cellphone model and graduated to using a smartphone. He did not give his number to everyone and instead, only allowed his daughter to call him. Slowly, he started to converse with his friends on the phone and in the end, he encouraged himself to check emails, call the customer, etc. Counseling If self help techniques do not help, counseling can be the next step. Counselors do not train mental health issues nor are they trained to do that. They only help you to gain clarity about your situation and advise what could be the best thing to do. Counselors may assess your situation and tell you why you are avoiding technology though it is obviously harming you. They may teach you certain techniques and listen to you patiently when you discuss your fears. Most people may ridicule your technophobia but a counselor will validate your fears and emotions. That alone is enough to help you start making positive changes in your life. For Example: Nicole always avoided her computer and was not able to use Skype to make video calls to her son. She sought the help of a counselor who pointed out that if she avoids her fear, she will never overcome it. Nicole slowly started to make video calls to not only her son, but also to her colleagues. Support groups When just counseling will not help, you may seek the help of support groups. Support groups are great for people who wish to share their stories with others. They can also learn from others how they are dealing with a

How do you Measure the Effectiveness of Your Company’s Blog?

For instance, HubSpot, marketing automation software can give you a better understanding of who is clicking and where specific clicks are coming from. Similarly, clicks on and around a publish date give you an insight into how well your posts are resonating with the target audience. You may also include a Call-To-Action button in your blog content. You can use it as a means to promote your other blog post offers and track how effective your blog is at generating leads. However, put something valuable within the CTA to inspire readers to click on it. Inbound links –  More Inbound Links Indicate Higher Rank in Search Engines If you make it a point to link other’s valuable content in your own blog post, they would also reciprocate the same in their content. It helps with your ranking on search engines. This is an indication that others have found your content helpful enough to link to it on their own website. You can use Google Analytics, Open Site Explorer, Backlink Watch or SEO profiler to measure inbound links in content. Blog Search Performance The foremost ways to measure the performance of your blog is to find out How many visitors your blog is attracting? The number will indicate how successful you are at attracting visitors to your website. You get measurements of total visitors, new visitors, return visitors and direct visitors. Google Analytics will take you a step further. This Analytical tool will show you the types of visitors viewing your blog. What is the number of subscribers to your blog? Social Shares Take the time to discover what factors cause readers to share your post. Indeed, social media buttons on your blog post pages are a direct indicator of the level in which people find your content helpful. Research and studies show that readers share content that-  Induces happiness  They found quite valuable  Are helpful to others Social analytics tools like Open Site Explorer is effective in measuring the volume of social shares any blog post on your website is generating. With each click of the social media button, you’ll receive confirmation that readers enjoyed your content and was engaged with it. A successful content strategy is aligned with measuring the revenue generated from it. Indus Net Technologies (INT.) Wins the National PR Day Award of Excellence

It is surely another moment of pride for us – the Indus Net family! This week we have been awarded with the National PR Day Award of Excellence by the Public Relation Society of India (PRSI), the national association of PR practitioners in the country. Organized by the Kolkata Chapter of PRSI, this award included a number of categories like initiative supporting Education, Childcare, Senior Citizens CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), Social Event Communication CSR etc. Indus Net Technologies was selected to be honored with this prestigious award for the category of CSR/Social Event Communication. To respect the National PR Day, PRSI not just named the award after the day but even planned to hand over the award to the winners on 21st April, which is observed as the National PR Day in India. Organized by the PRSI, Kolkata Chapter, the award distribution ceremony was held on 21st April, 2015 at Nazrul Tirtha in New Town of Kolkata from 5 pm onwards. The award was conferred to us considering one of our CSR activity that we conducted in association with Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, a Kolkata based organization for the development and well-being of sex workers & their children. Though Indus Net Technologies (INT.) , for the past 17+ years, has always been an active social contributor and has taken keen interest in offering social services to people in need from time to time, still this CSR activity named “Gift of Joy – Travel beyond boundaries to make a child smile” was a bit special. It was an initiative to give a little joy to the children of sex workers and to make Christmas of the year 2013 memorable for those deprived children, who have to go through a lot of social restrictions every day. We specifically chose those children, considering the disrespect society still has for the sex workers that in turn highly affects the basic joy of their children. For us, it makes much more sense to make such children smile, even if for a day; and it was this noble thought of INT family that probably touched the heart of the respectable jury members of the National PR Day Award of Excellence. The jury constituted of some of the eminent personalities from different professions whose names are as follows: P. K. Choudhury, Vice Chairman, ISRA Jimmy Tangree, Station Head, 93.5 Red F.M. Chandan Roy Chowdhury, Secretary, Bengal Olympic Association Ardhendu Banerjee, Actor/Theatre Personality Apart from the aforementioned jury members, a number of eminent personalities were present at the award distribution ceremony; and among them Mr. Ravindra Chamaria, CMD of Infinity Infotech Parks, handed over the National PR Day Award of Excellence to us. By giving out this award to us, the jury members and the Public Relation Society of India, Kolkata Chapter made “Gift of Joy” memorable for us once again. The event was already a special one for all of us at INT as through this event, we could spend a memorable day with some of the underprivileged children of the society.

Indus Net Technologies(INT.) Demystified Digital Marketing Once Again

Indus Net Technologies (INT.) once again conducted a workshop on Digital Marketing for the senior managers of the city of Kolkata; and this is not the first time that we have organized such an event. INT. has already conducted similar workshops in all the major cities of India like Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar and Chennai within a period of just one year. However, this time we once again chose the location of our headquarters for conducting this exclusive workshop on Digital Marketing. Being the brainchild of our CEO and the main speaker of the event, Mr. Abhishek Rungta, the workshop has been rightly named as “Digital Marketing Demystified”. Mr. Abhishek Rungta, being into the internet marketing business for more than 17 years, is believed to be a knowledge house when it comes to digital marketing. Over the years, Mr. Rungta has not just gathered exhaustive knowledge about this comparatively new marketing medium but his immense love for technology has helped him master the field at ease. It is this love for technology that made Mr. Abhishek Rungta take his business of Digital Marketing, Web Development and Enterprise Mobility to reach global limits. Now, as named, Digital Marketing Demystified was surely a doubt-clearing workshop for the senior managers operating out of Kolkata. Mr. Abhishek Rungta not just completely justified the purpose of the workshop but even went beyond limits to make the attendees of the workshop go back with a clear idea of what digital marketing is all about, what are its different techniques, how to strategize and implement those techniques, what are the dos and don’ts of digital marketing etc. Conducted on 10th April, 2015 at Hotel Hyatt Regency of Kolkata, this full-day exclusive workshop for the senior management even included a number of case studies in the form of videos that helped the attendees get a better insight into the subject. The workshop was jam-packed with the CEOs, COOs, Directors, Marketing Managers and Assistant Managers, Corporate Communications & PR Heads etc. of some of the reputed companies of Kolkata like Institute of Computer Accountants, Sweethandi.com, MNetra Reporting and many more. Apart from them, Ms. Rita Bhimani, the eminent PR personality and professional Corporate PR Consultant, even attended Digital Marketing Demystified. To quote her, “Abhishek is a phenomenal communicator to give us the kind of input we have got. It was helpful and interactive. It took us to another level. To me, its being a great great experience and I feel INT. has done an amazing job”. Other attendees were even of similar opinion and appreciated the initiative. All in all, Digital Marketing Demystified proved its exceptionality not by enlightening people about digital marketing but even by giving the attendees enough opportunity to know each other during the business networking lunch organized for them. INT. #JeSuisCharlie

We at Indus Net Technologies (INT.), #JeSuisCharlie

By now, each one of us has felt the horror and sadness viscerally. We have all said “#JeSuisCharlie” to ourselves, to our friends and colleagues and in status updates using the same hashtag on our social media accounts. #JeSuisCharlie (which means, “I am Charlie” in French), as a hashtag, has come to symbolize the pain and sadness with which the whole world has observed the saga from our comfort zones of offices & homes. People and security officers in France did not have that luxury, with the fear of an imminent attack lurking in their mortified minds. As a corporation and as an organization that values diversity, freedom of speech & respect for human life, everyone at INT. was horrified by the tragedy that took place at Charlie Hebdo’s 11th arrondissement office in Paris; and our heartfelt sadness & sheer disbelief at the loss of talented human lives and hardworking police officers are beyond what words could probably describe. All over the world, the same shock, sadness and pain were felt when four hostages were killed at the Vincennes Kosher Supermarket. It has been more than a week since the terrorist attacks took place in France and the world is slowly returning to what it used to be, with yet another Charlie Hebdo issue out on magazine stands. The tenacity and the strength with which the staff of Charlie Hebdo has worked in the last few days & the dignified manner in which most French citizens have reacted to the horror are admirable. Also admirable is the unanimous condemnation of violence from all corners of the world, regardless of nationality or religion. Charlie Hebdo probably will never be silenced, thanks to the efforts of Google, Le Monde (the leading French newspaper) and other generous donors, who have responded with financial, human resource & infrastructural support. In the safety and comfort of our offices & homes, we can only reflect on what freedom of speech means and how an attack of this proportion can marginalize several communities, which are already vulnerable. Being a tragedy of immense proportions, it hits us raw at Indus Net (INT.) because we are in the business of drawing, creating and animation. While our corporate animation projects have nothing in common with the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, we empathize with their creativity; and it saddens us to think that creativity, no matter how offensive, can hit back at the creators with crude violence. It saddens us to think that budding cartoonists and satire artists will probably now self-censor, even when they needn’t, out of fear of repercussions. It saddens us to think that more people will continue to crystallize their deeply held biases and prejudices against certain communities because of the actions of a radical few. It saddens us to think that talented cartoonists who used their creativity to question certain ideas were silenced with bullets. We might or might not agree with what artists say or create but they provide us with opportunities to reflect on society and its many shortcomings. As a society, what are we to do then? To argue, philosophize, intellectualize or rationalize acts of terror is futile. To engage in knee-jerk reactions and beginning to self-censor ourselves is futile too. The only plausible and sensible reaction to the tragedy is to express our genuine shock & grief and to offer condolences to all those who lost their lives or were injured during the attack. Another reaction is to hope; hope that the world will change for the better. The world over, too many people have lost their lives and continue to do so in other acts of violence & we take this moment to offer our condolences to everyone who was affected by this and the many other unnecessary tragedies which continue to take place. We end this eulogy by hoping that creative expression is not silenced and that marginalized groups are not further marginalized by this act of terror. We hope people everywhere take a moment to pay respect to those who lost their lives; and we hope that the friends & family members of those who lost their lives find the strength to grieve and move ahead, never forgetting the laughter & smiles that those who were slain once gifted to their readers.

INT. is Proud to be Associated with Poompuhar in Their E-Commerce Journey

Indus Net Technologies(INT.) is Proud to be Associated with Poompuhar in Their E-Commerce Journey

It’s another moment of pride for us! The e-commerce website of Poompuhar (the other name for Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited) that was developed by Indus Net Technologies (INT.) was recently inaugurated by Shri P. Mohan, the Rural Industries’ Minister.   Team INT.  has recently helped Poompuhar to take a step forward towards the e-commerce industry. Named after an ancient coastal city of Tamil Nadu, this emporium sells handicraft items created by the artisans of Tamil Nadu. The emporium even offers a range of Indian art and sculptures. Owing to the increasing craze for online shopping among the Indian citizens and the huge business benefits of e-commerce, the corporation felt the need for an e-commerce website for marketing its products; and hence, they contacted us & decided to assign us the website design and development project. We were assigned such a prestigious project keeping in mind our 17+ years of experience in website development that includes design, development, customization and revamping of different kinds of websites. Since our inception in the year 1997, we have even been associated with the design and development of a number of websites for the Government of India, which worked as a kind of assurance for the corporation to rely more on us; and as trusted, team INT. tried its best to completely live up to the expectation of the corporation. Our team of web designers and developers worked hard towards giving the required e-commerce website an eye-catching look so that it can attract a good amount of online customers. The website shows pictorial details of each handicraft product sold by the corporation that makes it easier for buyers to have a clear view of the products before purchasing. The team even attributed the website for Poompuhar with all the key features like product search, shopping bag, easy registration, zoomed product view on mouse hovering etc. that an e-commerce site should ideally have. Moreover, we have featured the Content Management System based website with the option to view price in both Indian and US currency that makes it serve foreign customers easily. Apart from the aforementioned key benefits, we have tried to make the website as feature-rich as possible. We have incorporated assistive technology within the website that makes it user-friendly for differently-abled people. The site even includes website visitor counter that helps Poompuhar to analyze how many visitors are actually converting to sales. This would, in turn, help the corporation plan their sales accordingly so that they can fulfill their aim of reaching INR. 100 crore in sales within the next 4 years. While talking about this, our CEO Mr. Abhishek Rungta said, “It was an immense pleasure for team INT. t to be associated with Poompuhar in its journey to the e-commerce sector. We hope the site developed by us help the corporation reach their business goal successfully.”

How Story and Metaphor Combine to Create an Effective Explainer Video

How Story and Metaphor Combine to Create an Effective Explainer Video

An explainer video, just like any short or long film, needs to be based on a good script. Good script writing practice involves using stories that are an allegory to something that is unsaid. Let us call them, metaphors. Metaphors in literary usage refer to words or ideas that describe a subject and compare them to an unrelated object or idea, while asserting they both are alike. Metaphors or allegories or similes? What is even more important for us to understand is the concept behind an allegory. Every story of an explainer video or a film must be allegorical in nature. Now what on earth could be an allegory? Is it the same as a metaphor or a simile? How do all these words fit into a storyboard that scriptwriters write before shooting an explainer video? In this article, let us firs describe what metaphors, allegories and similes are, and then look at the importance of stories being connected to these rhetorical figures of speech. If you are a script writer or you are looking for someone to get an explainer video made for you, make sure one of these figures of speech is used. Metaphors and stories A metaphor uses association, comparison and tactics of resemblance to imply that something that is being said is somehow similar to what is being compared. Shakespeare once said “All the world’s a stage”. He used the “stage” as a metaphor to imply that the world should be seen as a drama or a theatre. For him, the world was a spectacle in which we must get involved in order to feel its real essence, just like we would do in a stage play. In the case of an explainer video, the scriptwriter could make use of metaphors to make the audience experience a richer emotional process. For instance, while you are explaining Software XYZ, you could say that a particular software program is like a dentist, carefully going through problematic areas, cleaning them up and fixing them. Here, software XVZ is compared to a dentist and the dentist is the metaphor. One could easily have an explainer video story that personifies the software XYZ as a dentist that cleans, repairs and polishes whatever needs to be fixed on a computer or another software program. Now wouldn’t that interest the viewer more than just telling them how to use the software? Allegories and stories Allegories are a more complex and sophisticated form of figure of speech. They make the entire stories and films as an allegory (or allusion) to a broader idea or concept that is not mentioned. For instance, George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” was an allegory to the communist tyranny. Allegories are not often required in an explainer video script as that would make things way too complex. Your typical audience wouldn’t want to spend a lot of time debating the allegorical significance of the script used in your explainer video. Similes and stories A simile is a very simple form of rhetorical figure of speech. It compares two objects directly with the help of words like “than”, “so”, “as” or verbs such as “resemble”. For example, the expression “white as snow” is a simile. There is no hidden meaning here, and there is nothing that one needs to contemplate on. However, the phrase “white as snow” would make us think of purity, cleanliness, chill and winter. This simile maybe used in an advertisement that sells white cotton clothes. Similes are useful in ad copy creation but are not significantly important when it comes to creating stories for explainer videos. Final thoughts Metaphors can be used to weave into stories before writing the storyboard and ensure that the explainer video is not only entertaining but also of some thought provoking importance. Also, using allegories is better for mainstream movies or artful documentaries and short films. Allegories consume a lot of cognitive energy of the viewer for explainer videos to be successful. On the other hand, similes are great to be used in ad copy but must be sparingly used in explainer videos. In conclusion, we can say that a metaphorical story is always better than a simple script when it comes to explainer videos. To create effective explainer videos for your business, talk to the explainer video specialists at Oomphbox.

Using Your Existing Magento Platform for B2B Enterprise E-commerce

Using Your Existing Magento Platform for B2B Enterprise E-commerce

No matter which business model you are into, it is utmost important to equally focus on the B2B (Business to Business) needs of your business while you run a retail e-commerce business; focusing solely on the normal B2C (Business to Customer) is not enough. Now, you must be wondering why. Here are the key reasons for your consideration and business success: The first and foremost being B2B enterprise e-commerce always co-exists with B2C business. Almost every retail online portal necessitates having the presence of distributors, resellers, sales employees, wholesalers etc. for a continued business growth with sustainable revenue from these business stakeholders. After all, a considerable amount of revenue that gets generated from this channel can be used for boosting marketing campaigns and increasing sales for your B2C business. It’s true that Magento, like any other SaaS or Open Source software, mainly supports B2C model; however, Magento is flexible enough to be attributed with a number of B2B features. This blog would take you through a detailed synopsis of which B2B features Magento can be configured with and which B2B features e-retailing often needs. B2B features Magento can be configured with Some small changes in the As Is Magento installation can provide you with almost all the B2B features required for your business. As nowadays, B2B portal needs are similar to the fundamental B2C business needs, it’s not too difficult to customize Magento with the following features that are mostly required by retailers, resellers etc. like you: Discount details Downloadable data sheets and manuals Invoice and order history Live customer help Order and shipment details Product details with multiple images Product suggestion and wish list Quick re-ordering Video tutorials B2B features your e-commerce portal might need Though B2B business needs are widespread and even 25% of those requirements can hardly be predicted, but here are some of the most common B2B features that e-commerce businesses generally need: Company Account:  If you are into e-commerce business, you would know that the basic difference between B2C and B2B modes of business is that in B2C mode, an e-commerce portal is browsed by consumers, whereas, in B2B mode, partner companies access an e-commerce website. Hence, if you fall within the latter category, your e-commerce business would necessitate having a company account with a list of contact persons who are authorized to place online orders against the name of his or her company. Financial Data Management: If your business deals with bulk orders from companies, then your e-commerce business might need to disable or hide financial details from contact persons of those companies when they browse through your e-commerce website. This B2B feature in Magento would help you do that. Payment Method Integration: B2B businesses depend on different payment modes than B2C businesses. B2C businesses mostly use payment gateways like Authorize.Net, PayPal etc., whereas, B2B e-commerce businesses prefers using conventional or offline payment modes like credit limit, purchase order etc. However, many companies nowadays think it to be wise to use both. If you are among those companies, you would surely need this B2B feature in Magento. Now, Magento includes purchase order by default but to make it more B2B business friendly, it’s necessary to include such a feature that would allow contact persons to attach a PDF based purchase order if they like to. Moreover, credit limit that you can set for your partner companies at the onset of a financial year is something new for Magento.
